Dreaming of a Home Gym

Anyone who knows Matthew knows that his number one priority is getting his swoll on. That being said since we’ve lived in our wonderful home his home gym has taken many forms. At the moment it lives on our side patio and looks like this

Last winter it was moved to the porch (along with his wood chopping center) in an effort to promote working out in the sub zero temperatures that we learned to love (well really we learned to hide from them). This year we are hoping to level the ground in our “garage” and put in a fancy cement floor giving all of that beautiful exercise equipment a real home and the two of us a quality gym to get our work-out on in.

As of now this is just a dream but I will keep you posted as we come closer to making it a reality. I will also be keeping you posted on how my month of Matthew Crossfit training goes. Tonight is our second work out and involves something called “fight gone bad” wish me luck!

This Yellow House

004

After deciding to renew our lease on the big yellow house for the next two years we came to the conclusion that there were some major projects to get done. Our first major undertaking is putting in the garden that we’ve been talking about for the past year.

And here it is, the future site of our lovely garden. Today was round one of our battle with the grass currently occupying our garden plot. Matthew got after it with the weed whacker and tomorrow hopes to finish the job with the neighbors rototiller. We also got some fabric ground cover to help battle the grass and weeds once we get it all tilled under. Chloe took a break from her dirt eating to help show off the ground cover.

Once the grass and weed have been covered our plan is to plant the garden to end all gardens, or at least a garden to help supplement or over the top veggie eating. When planning our crops we went with what we eat the most of which equated to a lot of peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, peas and carrots. Lucky for us today P.E.A.C.H. community farms plant sale and they hooked us up with a variety fancy tomato and pepper plants along with an eggplant and some mint for flavor.

We also stopped and picked up some seeds to round out the crop selection and will be planting beets, carrots, two types of lettuce, peas, and cucumbers. We have also been gifted three giant rhubarb plants that will be split and relocated closer to the main garden (you can see how high the grass was before Matthew attacked it, in the end it actually killed our weed whacker)

Along with the veggie garden we are going to try and maximize the fruit out put from our mini orchard.

011

In all we have 6 apple tress, two plum trees and a pear tree. Last year we had more fruit than we knew what to do with but most of it was inhabited by a variety of insect friends, this year we are hoping to reduce the amount of fruit lost to pests and learn the arts of canning and brewing hard apple cider.

That’s all for now check back tomorrow to see (hopefully!) our planted garden!
